Ocean on your right, you’re going to San Diego,
ocean on your left…
Enroute from San Simeon to Guadalupe (near Santa Maria) we spent a large part of the day in San Luis Obispo. We had the pleasure of meeting students, faculty, staff, and other campus visitors. Two classes assembled to hear about our take on electric transportation, entrepreneurship, launching technology and more. Better than our talk were the reactions of some of the brightest engineering students in the state after they rode the Zuumer. Thanks to John, his students, and those who spent time with us while we were on campus!
also known as 100 miles on a Zuumer, in one day, up and down the hills of Big Sur…
As dramatic as the Golden Gate was, today takes the prize for shear, stunning beauty. Travelling virtually silently let us hear the sounds of crashing waves, pelicans, and sea lions. Climbing the steep hills around Big Sur tested the Zuumer better than most labs could (and let us ’surf’ down the long descents).
We ended the long day well:
When I think of Santa Cruz, two images come to mind - surfboards and bicycles. We saw plenty of surfers, waves, boards, and lots of people getting around town on scooters, bicycles, and mopeds.
The “Share the Road” signs were particularly encouraging as was the well marked asphalt. Lots of miles today, we were thankful to be able to stop for a few pictures…
and meet some fans (more on this famous SC surfer later):
It seems like the hills of SF extend far beyond the city! The Zuumer made it up (and down!!) the many hills along the coast (heading south, of course). Apart from the breathtaking views, we got more than a few thumbs up from passing drivers. By the end of the day we’d covered well over 60 miles!
We spent the morning on San Francisco’s Ocean Beach as part of the global Coastal Cleanup Day. The many volunteers made the popular beach a clean popular beach!
We were happy to show our environmentally friendly (and fun!) Zuumer to the volunteers:
The north side of the Golden Gate Bridge marks the start of our tour down the coast - a lineup of beach towns from San Francisco to San Diego. After setting foot in Marin County, we crossed the Golden Gate in style…
(or maybe Guuglers love Zuumers)
Apart from many, many test drives on (and across!) the Google campus - we played a game we like to call “Spot the EV”. Electric Vehicles abound on the beautiful campus - ranging from brand new Tesla Roadsters to electric bicycles, scooters and more Prius Hybrids than we could count. It is refreshing to see an innovative, respected company support the technology!
We enjoyed spending some time riding with Stanford students and faculty! Besides smart engineers, product designers, and innovators we met a number of the (very impressive) incoming freshmen.
We couldn’t tell if there were more freshmen or bicycles on campus:
And it seems we have a few more fans!
Thanks to the employees of Sun for making yesterday’s event a success! We hope you enjoyed Zuuming around your beautiful campus…
